Super Bowl & Pro Bowl 2015 | Beware of Rental Scams

Screen Shot 2014-05-09 at 12.45.11 AMUnfortunately, in this day and age of open technology, someone can grab your property information from a multitude of places and claim it as their own to rent.  This happens more frequently when people are seeking for rentals from out of state.   So, if you’re looking into renting a condo or home for your stay, specifically during the Pro Bowl or Super Bowl 2015, I would like to give you some tips for avoiding these scams. As attorney Rachel Dollar, says,   “It’s kind of become the new get-rich-quick scheme out there,”

We’ve all received those email scams telling us how they will send us a large amount of money if only we provide them with our bank account information.  When dealing with an individual regarding a rental property, pay attention to their language and words used.  Here are a couple of examples people have sent me who have been in contact with a fraudster.

Thanks for your interest and sorry for the late response.it was due to my wife illness but i thank GOD she is getting better.I must confess that I am very very new in this landlord business..However, My name is John Little,I own the house located at (1234 N 123rd Street, Phoenix, AZ 88855).Due to my job as a missionary I spent less time in the States so I could not get a hold on any Realtor to handle this rent issue, although it was when I knew how long we are going to stay in (Abuja, NIGERIA)  that I decided to rent out the house and i will be here for (3-4 years)..How ever, the initial plan was to sale out the house which I tried, but some times the agents inflates the prize and it takes longer to sell i am telling you this in case if you find the house on another website, that is the old advert. because of this reason and more we need a responsible person (With good credit) that can take very good care of it as we are not after the money, but want it to be clean and for you to take of it as if it were yours The rent is $1000 and $800 for Security Deposit…Utilities such as Air Conditioner Dishwasher  Walk-in Closet Refrigerator  Vaulted Ceilings Washer/Dryer Cable etc are all included in the rent…

SO IF YOU ARE REALLY INTERESTED I WILL WANT YOU TO FILL THE RENT                                     APPLICATION FORM BELOW.

Since I have been selling real estate, many of my traditional listings have shown up as rentals, by Fraudsters, and now that much more with the rental properties for listed for both the  Pro Bowl and Super Bowl 2015,  I receive calls daily from individuals who  have been communicating with these  ‘fraudsters’ who are requesting monies on some of my rental properties, being told that they will mail them the keys etc. etc.  PLEASE be sure to always contact the Listing Agent to ensure that you are truly dealing with a legitimate individual who does represent the property and who will give you accurate information.

Many people try to rent their properties on their own and likewise those who are looking to rent a property scour the internet.  As a REALTOR, my goal is to provide Peace of Mind to Arizona Property Owners and Reassurance to Tenants.  If you choose to seek a property on your own,  ask for identification from the property owner, at a very minimum, a piece of mail that has their name and the property address on it, even as a utility bill.  This still won’t ensure that you’re dealing with the legitimate property owner, but it’s a start.

Feel free to contact me for more information or to set up an initial appointment to discuss your rental needs.
